5 balls Estelle Watercolours

12 mm needles

Finished size:  approximately 90 cm (36 inches) deep and 150 cm (60 inches) across top edge not including fringe.

Gauge:  approximately 8 sts per 10 cm (4 inches) using two strands of Watercolours held together – gauge is not critical for this project.

Instructions:

Cast on 2 stitches.

Row 1:     k1, yo, knit to end of row.  (Each row will be one stitch longer than the previous row.)

Repeat row 1 until you have used four balls of Watercolours or until desired length is achieved.  Cast off very loosely.

Make fringe:  Using the fifth ball, cut lengths of Watercolours approximately 35 cm (14 inches) long.  You can wind the yarn around a small paperback book, lengthwise, and cut along one end to make the pieces.  Knot four fringes through each yarnover hole at the edge of the shawl.

TIPS:

YO – yarnover increase – bring yarn between needle points to front, then take across the top of the needle before knitting the next stitch.  This makes a decorative increase.
